Pie Chart:

The following Pie chart represents the percentage break-ups of the number of students who participated in a singing competition.

Total Students = 3000

Study the Pie – chart carefully and answer the following question.

Q.1. In singing competition. Find the difference between the number of students who participated from school B and the number of students who participated from school A and E together?

(a) 420

(b) 210

(c) 330

(d) 540

(e) None of these

Q.2. If the average number of students participated in the singing competition from school C, E, and H are 450. Then how many students participated from school H?

(a) 420

(b) 390

(c) 510

(d) 540

(e) None of these

Q.3. If 420 and 250 female students participated in the singing competition from school B and C respectively. Then what does the difference between the number of male students participated from these school?

(a) 150

(b) 160

(c) 170

(d) 180

(e) None of these

Q.4. The number the students who participated in the singing competition from F are what percent less than the number of students who participated from school B?

(a) 30%

(b) 50%

(c) 60%

(d) 40%

(e) None of these

Q.5. The respective ratio of male to female participants from school C is 3:4 respectively. How many female students participated from school C?

(a) 180

(b) 240

(c) 420

(d) 540

(e) None of these

Solution:

(1)

The total percentage of students who participated from school A and E together is

= (13 + 5)% = 18%

Percentage of students from school B is 25%

Difference of percentage (25 - 18) = 7%

So, difference = 7 % of 3000 = 210

Option (b) is correct.

(2)

The average student from school C, E, and H is 450

Total students from school C, E, and H is 450 X 3 = 1350

Total percentage students participated from school C and E is (14 + 13)% = 27%

The students from school C and E is 27% of 3000 = 810

So, students from school H is (1350 - 870) = 540

Option (d) is correct.

(3)

Total student participated from school B is 25% of 3000 = 750

Female student = 420

So, male student from school B is 330

Total student participated from school C is 14% of 3000 = 420

Female student is = 250

So, male student from school C is (420 – 250 ) = 170

So, the difference between male student is (330 – 170) = 160

Option (b) is correct.

(4)

The percentage of students who participated from school F is 15%

The percentage of students who participated from school B is 25%

So, (25 - 15) % = 10 % of students less participate from school than school B

Option (d) is correct.

N.B →  Don’t spend your time calculating the total student.

(5)

Total student from school is 14% of 3000 = 420

Male : Female = 3 : 4

Option (b) is correct.

Example 2:

Study the following Pie Chart carefully and answer the following questions.

Percentage distribution of students in different courses

Total Students = 4000

Q.1. What is the value of half of the difference between the number of students in B.Tech and Pharmacy?

(a) 160

(b) 180

(c) 200

(d) 140

(e) None of these

Q.2 How much less percentage of students are in B.Sc than pharmacy?

(a) 10%

(b) 15%

(c) 20%

(d) 18%

(e) None of these

Q.3 What is the total number of students are in B.Sc, B.Ed, and pharmacy?

(a) 2200

(b) 3000

(c) 2000

(d) 2500

(e) None of these

Q.4. What is the respective ratio between the number of students in MBA and B Tech?

(a) 1:2

(b) 2:3

(c) 1:3

(d) 3:2

(e) None of these

Q.5. What is the ratio between the total number of students are in B.Sc and B.Ed to the students are in pharmacy?

(a) 2:1

(b) 2:3

(c) 3:2

(d) 1:2

(e) None of these

Solution:

(1)

Difference of percentage of students in between B.Tech and Pharmacy is

= (28 - 20) % = 8 %

So, difference of the students = 8 % of 4000 = 320

Option (a) is correct.

(2)

Students in B.Sc is (20 - 17) % = 3% less than pharmacy.

Option (b) is correct.

(3)

Total percentage of students are is B.Sc, B.Ed and pharmacy is = (17 + 13 + 20)%

= 50 %

So, Total students = 50 % of 4000

= 2000

Option (c) is correct.

(4)

Percentage of students are in MBA and B.Tech are in respectively 14 % and 28 %

So, ratio = 14 : 28 = 1 : 2

Option (a) is correct.

(5)

Total percentage of students are in B.Sc and B.Ed is (17 + 13) % = 30%

Total percentage of students are in pharmacy is 20%

So, ratio is 30 : 20 = 3 : 2

Option (c) is correct.
